Brigitte & Steve – xth February, 2020

Why did you choose Basils Farm for your wedding?
Basils Farm is such an incredible venue. It has such a unique backdrop and so many perfect spots to capture the day. It felt like such a natural setting, and not over the top which suited us perfectly. Basils also has stunning views of Swan Bay and we were so lucky to get a perfectly sunny day there. We both love the beach so we were so happy to find such a special place that incorporated the water as well as a unique venue. We loved the fact that they are environmentally conscious, producing lots of their own food and giving back to the community we felt like it is a great business to support.

How did you find the planning process?
Working with Basils Farm Manager, Talla was a dream, Talla helped make the whole experience from the initial first meeting to the ongoing planning and then, of course, the big day, so smooth and effortless. Talla coordinated and organised everything – we didn’t need to bring in caterers or hire items, there was no added stress. Talla provided so many different options and was happy to incorporate new ideas, we felt like nothing was too hard to arrange. Chef Sean supported us and created our very own menu, to suit Steve’s severe food allergies. This meant our whole wedding was Dairy, Nut and Egg free, it was such a relief to not have to worry about this, as we do in our everyday lives.

What was your favourite moment on your big day?
The whole day went so perfectly for us, so it’s hard to pinpoint one moment. The Ceremony itself was such a joy and we both couldn’t stop smiling. We loved spending some quiet time together between entree and dinner, where we went down to the paddocks to meet and feed the resident Llamas, Basil and Houdini, and of course, we loved getting to spend time with our family and friends singing and dancing away into the evening.

Can you tell me about your styling inspiration?
Basils incredible venue, allows for the scenery and landscapes to be a perfect backdrop, which meant we didn’t have to over-style, and allowed us to embrace the beautiful natural setting. We used classic flowers and greenery, large open roses to bring a bit of warmth and elegance to the setting but nothing too dramatic as to not outshine the surroundings. The mood in the evening was such a great vibe! We had the fire pit going in the garden, the band playing sing-along tunes in the cottage, guests dancing away under the festoon lights and our single neon love heart tied it all in. Basils easily created our own style and worked around us, rather than having a generic list of features.

What are some words of wisdom for future Basils couples?
Find a moment to enjoy the day together and relax. The rest will take care of itself as Basils fantastic team has it all covered. We were so comfortable working with Talla from Basils she made the whole experience so much more enjoyable as there was no need to stress about the small things.

Tamsin & Steve – 9th November, 2019

Why did you choose Basils Farm for your wedding?
A while before we were engaged we had a lovely date at Basil’s farm, we were blown away by the natural beauty, the amazing garden, charm and stunning cuisine and wine.  The day that we got engaged, (which was also Tamsin’s birthday) we had a celebration lunch at Basil’s farm. We started thinking about what a wonderful place it would be to get married! After some enquiries we booked the date, it felt like the perfect choice for what we wanted.

How did you find the planning process?
The planning process was great, the staff were super attentive and helpful. We had a few meetings and went over checklists. There was also a food and wine tasting evening which was delightful!

What was your favourite moment on your big day?
Our favourite moment of the day was the “first look” it was so special to see each other and soak in the fact that this was our wedding day! The day went by so fast, but we loved every minute of. Seeing all our family and friends together and sharing in our happiness, felt so wonderful.

Can you tell me about your styling inspiration?
We went for a classic look with a modern twist for our wedding. The natural beauty of Basil’s Farm combined with fairy lights, bunting, candles, white tablecloths and white peonies looked superb!

What are some words of wisdom for future Basils couples?
Our words of wisdom would be, spring is beautiful, but the weather can be unpredictable! We loved having a live band on the day, our guests really enjoyed it and it was a real highlight! Our main advice, which sounds cliche, is soak up the day, it will go by so fast and make sure you take some moments to stand back and enjoy it all.

Penelope & James – 14th December, 2019

Why did you choose Basils Farm for your wedding?
As a girl I always dreamt of a beach wedding in Ocean Grove – as an adult, I realised the logistics of getting grandparents on to the sand, and of course, the risk of wind or rain made it less appealing to me.  When we got engaged we knew we wanted a relaxed wedding vibe- the sort of vibe you get if you’re hosting your wedding on a property – but we found the idea of planning our own property wedding much too overwhelming. We had started to talk about our “dream wedding venue” but we weren’t sure how we’d get that beachy, chilled out wedding vibe. Then one day we remembered Basil’s Farm (which we had stumbled across years ago when it was called Kiltynane Estate). Basil’s Farm literally ticked all the boxes for us with beautiful views of Swan Bay that are protected from the wind and has wet weather ceremony options. It also feels like you’re on someones beautiful country property with lush veggie patches, an old farmhouse and animals (including llamas!!).  Within five minutes we’d downloaded Basil’s Farm’s wedding brochure and emailed Talla to organise a meeting. A week later we had a date locked in! We never looked back.

How did you find the planning process?
From the first coffee meeting, we knew our wedding was in great hands! Talla is an absolute dream to work with. No question is silly and you know she is going to do everything humanly possible to make sure your wedding is all you hoped for and more!
We loved that we were able to work with Talla and Sean to design our Wedding menu. Our guests are still talking about how incredible the food was months later.
One of the great things about Basil’s Farm is that Talla and the team make you feel so supported. Planning our wedding was really quite stress-free (despite only booking 7 months before our wedding day) as venue, food, drinks, set up, pack down was all coordinated by Basil’s Farm. Despite this you have the capacity to make the space and evening completely your own. It’s the best of both worlds.

What was your favourite moment on your Big Day?
We loved every single moment. It was truly the best day of our lives. Some highlights:

  • Getting married looking over the water surrounded by our family and friends.
  • My grandmother was going to walk me down the isle, unfortunately, she became very ill the night before the wedding and ended up in hospital. A perfect example of how incredibly accommodating Talla, Chez and the team at Basil’s were is that they worked with us on the day to tweak my timeline so the bridal party and I could travel into Geelong to surprise my Nan in hospital in our wedding outfits. This involved moving the first look at Basil’s forwards slightly and the ceremony backwards slightly. This change was streamlined by Talla and Greg opening up the drinks caravan in the garden as our guests arrived and ushering the guests down to the ceremony spot just before we returned from the hospital. I’ll be forever grateful to Basil’s Farm for making it possible for me to see my Nan on my wedding day.
  • Feeding the llamas!
  • Dancing on an outdoor dance floor in the garden, underneath festoon lighting – literally the best fun!

Can you tell me about your styling inspiration?
Honestly, Basil’s Farm doesn’t need a lot, it’s already so beautiful you could really get away with no styling at all! We went for a relaxed beach/travelling vibe.

The ceremonywe had a triangle arbour that Jamie and I made from old timber (he made it, I sanded and stained 😉) and we hung a mistletoe cactus from the arbour using one of my Nan’s old brass hanging pots. The theory was we didn’t want anything too big on the arbour as we didn’t want to take away from the bay views – a mistletoe cactus because it was a December wedding and I thought it was cute (first kiss under the mistletoe 🙈).

Signagewe used an old pallet to make a direction sign (vows there, party here!), a welcome sign, card table sign and polaroid station sign. We had the decals made on Etsy so I didn’t need to stress about hand painting the signs. I always love a good polaroid station at a wedding so I had to have one at our wedding. The beautiful living green wall in the pavilion made for a great backdrop for the polaroid photos.

TablesBasil’s farm made table flowers using what was flowering on the farm that week and matched it to my bouquet flowers. Our reception was walk and fork so we had scattered tables, wine barrels and the gift, cake and polaroid tables. On the gift, cake and polaroid tables I had sea shell and tea light candles, old suitcases for the cards and my Dad’s piano accordion (as a tribute to my Dad who is no longer with us).

FlowersWe had dried bouquets, buttonholes, corsages, cake flowers and confetti. This was great as we had the florals weeks in advance so we knew they were perfect and we still have them all. I’m looking at my beautiful bouquet in a vase on my table as I type this.

What are some words of wisdom for future Basils couples?
I think one of the best things you can do is find vendors that are similar to you if your wedding vibe is their ideal gig – it won’t feel like work for them and they’ll have an absolute ball doing your wedding.

Basil’s Farm will work with you to make the day your own – don’t be afraid to shake things up so that the day is 100% you! For example, Jamie wasn’t so keen on doing a fist dance, so we did a first song instead (me singing, him on guitar).

Take 15 minutes to sit beside the cellar door, eat some canapés and have a moment with your partner. We did this, it was in the run sheet so Talla and Chez made sure we took this little breather. It was perfect as we had some time to ourselves to let it all sink in and regroup before the amazing madness that is the reception. It also means you actually get to enjoy some of the delicious menu you designed and gaze over the beautiful vines.

You’re going to have the best day ever!!! Enjoy xxx

Sammi & Damien – 6th December 2019

Why did you choose Basils Farm for your wedding?
The feel when you first walk in is something else. Beautiful, lush gardens then you see the stunning views of the fields and bay. Such a hidden gem on the Bellarine and is totally different from the other wineries. It is simply stunning, effortless and relaxed which is exactly what we wanted!

How did you find the planning process?
The planning process was amazing. Talla (and Basils staff) were super accommodating and nothing was ever too much trouble. They listened to what we wanted and helped our vision come to life. Any minor adjustments we wanted, they allowed. I feel compared to other venues, Basils were more than happy to listen and create what we wanted rather than giving us a ‘set’ criteria that everyone was to follow. So many of our guests commented and said how our day just represented Damien and I so much. This only happened because Basils allowed us to create a day that suited us.

What was your favourite moment on your Big Day?
This is a hard one. All of it! I have lots that stick out like arriving and seeing all our guests, our vows, our speeches and our super fun dance floor party!

Can you tell me about your styling inspiration?
I used Pinterest a lot for our ceremony. I knew I wanted 2x flower stands and the styling to be minimal and simple as I feel the venue is just too stunning, less was more. We didn’t need to do a lot décor wise. Just flowers for the ceremony and I chose simple, natural colours with a small pop of colour. As for the café and pavilion Basils provided flower jars around the barrels that suited my flowers and we hired festoon lights and neon sign. Not much was needed at all! Those bay views are amazing.

What you some words of wisdom for future Basils brides?
Enjoy every minute, the lead-up and the day because it all goes so fast. Be super organised the week of and the day of your wedding so you can just relax and watch it all play out how you envisioned. No one wants to see a stressed-out bride!

Mikaela & Jackson – 30th November, 2019

Why did you choose Basils Farm for your wedding?
We visited a lot of local venues, but none of them stood out like Basils Farm. We had never been to Basils Farm before, but we knew as soon as we visited, that it was the place we wanted to have our wedding. From the stunning venue to the paddock to plate menu, we knew it was the one for us!

How did you find the planning process?
The Planning process was really good. We were presented with lots of variety and options so that we could ensure the day was exactly how we wanted it. We like to be organised and had a lot of questions, Talla was great value and more than happy to answer all of our queries. We soon learnt, there is no such thing as a silly question!

What was your favourite moment on your Big Day?
All of it, It was seriously PERFECT! We even got a rainbow! Lucky enough to get this in our professional photo’s.

Can you tell me about your styling inspirations?
We wanted a relaxed, semi-formal wedding with lots of greenery, as we both love the environment. Basils gave us just that. The location of a winery overlooking the water was a spectacular setting and everything we could have dreamed of.

What are some words of wisdom for future Basils brides?
Be in the moment and enjoy it. Enjoy the booking and planning process, the lead-up, the day before, the day. It’s all part of the fun. And on the day, take a moment, a deep breath, look out at everyone and remember that all the guests, your closest friends and family are there for you guys. Enjoy!

Lauren & Josh –  26th October, 2019

Why did you choose Basils Farm for your wedding?
My husband and I moved to the Bellarine Peninsula in 2017 and visited Basil Farm for the first time soon after. We immediately loved the serene and beautiful location. When it came time to find a wedding venue we after somewhere that was local for us, relaxed, had beautiful scenery and good food and with the opportunity to have both the ceremony and reception in one place, so of course, Basil’s Farm was the perfect choice.

How did you find the planning process?
I was surprised by how much planning does go into a wedding even for a fairly casual wedding such as ours, but Talla and the staff were so helpful and guided us through the whole process from start to finish with so much warmth, kindness, direction and fun! The chef/staff were very accommodating to our guests with dietary requirements and made the food planning process fun!

What was your favourite moment on your Big Day?
Seeing all our family and friends in one place, connecting, laughing, dancing and having a fab time.

Can you tell me about your styling inspiration?
We kept it fairly simple with mostly native flower arrangements on wine barrels to frame the ceremony space, flowers in vases on the tables, a flower arrangement above the pavilion door and some candles. We didn’t feel the need to add too much decoration at Basil’s Farm because the venue is already so pretty with the water view, gum trees, veggie patch, fireplace and pavilion green wall.

What are some words of wisdom for future Basils brides?
Just trust Talla and her team!  and your wedding will be amazing at Basil’s Farm no matter the weather on the day.

Alyce & Brett – 26th September, 2019

Why did you choose Basils Farm for your wedding?
We had been looking for something rustic, relaxed but beautiful and my cousin suggested I check out Basils Farm and it is just beautiful.  I love how you can see the water, I love the gardens, I love the feel of the place, it is naturally just really beautiful.  We also loved the pavilion for the reception as it is a beautiful canvas to create whatever you want the reception to feel and look like and the ability to have the dance floor set up outside in the garden with fairy lights overhead, it just created such a beautiful atmosphere, can’t forget the fire pit going in the background.  I mean, I could really go on and on about all the amazing details that make up Basils Farm.

How did you find the planning process?
The planning with Talla and Basils was so easy going and simple.  At our first meeting, we were shown around the property and explained what possibilities there are for places we can have the ceremony or the reception and how it can be set up etc.  They were very clear on pricing (which was super helpful – no guessing games or hidden costs).  And all the staff were just amazing to deal with.  We even loved meeting the chef and chatting through the menu for the wedding.  Which also included a dinner for several couples that were getting married at Basils to taste test the food.  My husband and I walked away so happy with the food and wine and stuffed full of goodness and ideas for our own wedding menu.  And on that note, the number of people that raved about how amazing the food is was really a testament to Basils care and expertise in offering fresh and delicious food.

What was your favourite moment on your Big Day?
It was the most relaxed day, I didn’t feel stressed at all and felt so taken care of by Basils Farm.  If anything went wrong, I knew nothing about it and the day was all handled with such professionalism.  It was everything I had hoped for.  I think my favourite moment was standing with my husband during the ceremony in front of all our favourite people becoming husband and wife.  I also loved dancing and just seeing everyone have a great time.  So special to have Timothy Marriage Photography capturing all these moments for us.  He was a dream to work with.

Can you tell me about your styling inspiration?
I love white, wood and greenery, so that was pretty much my vision. Kept things simple but elegant.  My dad helped me make an arbour and my cousin did the flowers. We kept our bouquets simple, each with just a single white protea. The table settings were simple also.  Just white with little jars of greenery on the tables. We also had little pots of local honey for each guest that my mother in law had organised.

What you some words of wisdom for future Basils brides?
Create the day that you and your partner want, not what other people think it should be.  Be clear about what you want the day to be like and what your vision is and then just enjoy.  The most important thing is that you and your partner are coming together to become husband and wife, everything else is just the ”cherry on the top”.
